Club President - Gerry Motl '68
| Gerry graduated with the class of ’68, one of the
greatest USNA classes. Not only did the class of ’68 have the highest
attrition rate in Naval Academy history, but it managed to turn out some
great graduates including Mike Mullen (current JCS Chairman), Denny
Blair (current Director of National Intelligence), Charlie Bolden (NASA
Director), Jim Webb (Senator from Virginia) and Ollie North…plus two
CNO’s and a Marine Corps Commandant! |
 |
Unlike these guys, Gerry served in nuclear submarines
and then taught at the A1W prototype in Idaho…where he met his wife,
Roxanne. After leaving active duty, he spent most of his civilian career in
nuclear energy and nuclear waste cleanup. More recently, he taught
accounting for 4 years at Xavier University and currently works as a CPA and
CFP. He retired from the naval reserve as a Captain in 1992.

Vice President - Tom Schram '69
| Tom graduated
with the class of ’69, the class with the last true Plebe Year. It all
changed before our eyes after we went through Plebe Year. We took the
midshipman oath of office in Tecumseh Court on 30 June 1965 and four
years later graduated with our class motto, “’69 is mighty fine!”,
intact. |
 |
We graduated 879 with an
attrition of 33.8%, slightly lower than the great class of ’68. A unique
piece of trivia is that Gerry and Tom were in the same company (17th)
for the years 1965-1966. Gerry’s room was always open for we plebes and he
will be remembered forever by Tom.
Tom served in Electronic
Intelligence and was a professional cryptographer. After active duty, Tom
spent his career in marketing at Procter & Gamble and other various types of
entrepreneurial activities. He met his wife Betsy in Cincinnati on a blind
date and they have twin daughters.

Secretary
- DJ Crane
| DJ Crane graduated in the Class of ’72. He completed
nuclear power training in Vallejo and Idaho Falls, and then served on
the Patrick Henry [SSBN599] in the Pacific. He returned to Idaho as
training officer, before leaving the Navy for an MBA at Stanford. He
spent 15 years with General Electric, mostly in the Information Services
business units. This included a 5-year “deployment” to Japan and
Australia. |
 |
DJ and his wife Donna both left GE in the mid-1990’s, electing to stay in
Louisville while their 4 kids completed high school. They moved to
Covington, KY in 2003. Their second oldest daughter, her husband and
3-year-old twins also live in Covington, providing a great “anchor” in the
region.
DJ has worked for several companies since leaving GE, including United
Technologies, Invensys, SCT Corporation and Bell & Howell, often in interim
executive roles in support of key initiatives. He and Donna are also
partners in Business Navigation Group, which helps executive leadership
teams improve their performance.

Treasurer
- Steve Carrington '92
| Steve, as the youngest member of the Cinci USNA Alumni
Board, injects much needed ‘new blood’ into the organization. It helps
that he was a graduate during one of the most significant military era’s
of this country, and that he was a brown shoe aviator which helps liven
up any gathering of USNA grads. Subs and SWOs can always use a little
Naval Aviation appreciation. |
 |
After graduation, Steve flew F-18 Hornets for VFA 37
(The Bulls), graduated from Navy TopGun, flew for VFA 82 (The Marauders) and
ended his career as a Reservist with VFA-12 (The Omars). Steve left the
service as a LCDR to pursue a career in business where he served as an
International Program Manager for GE Aviation (military aircraft engines).
He left GE to become Director, Business Development for L-3 Communications,
Cincinnati Electronics.
The Alumni Association operates in the black and does
not collect dues or any other participatory funds. We welcome any ideas for
growing the team, getting together, and giving back to USNA, the Navy, and
the greater Cincinnati Community.
Pictured above is Steve (USNA ’92) and his wife Diane,
a proud member of the USAFA class of ’91. Steve has attended both Navy vs.
Notre Dame Games in the last 3 years that resulted in Navy victory. The
luck of the Irish has clearly passed.

Web Comms - Lou Cedrone '85
| Lou hails
from the class of 1985. Like most of us, he experienced the
bittersweet memories of watching the Chapel Dome fade into the rear view
mirror that June. After a stint at Nuc School (why?) and Prototype
in Windsor Lochs, Lou ended up on the West Coast. Lou lived in San
Francisco, serving on the USS Texas (CGN-39). |
 |
After leaving Naval service,
Lou joined P&G, making Folgers coffee and married a classmate's sister
(don't ask!). Two relocations and two children later, Lou's a resident
of the Cincinnati area and loving life (although still not a true-blue
Bengals fan).
